Padlock Measurement Guide
This short video shows how to correctly measure the various parts of a Padlocks body and shackle:
The diagrams below are designed to make it as easy as possible for customers to find the right padlock to fulfill their needs.
There are two main parts of a padlock these are the body and the shackle. The body is where the keyhole is positioned and this normally built using brass, steel or chrome. The shackle is normally normally built using brass or steel. Below is a demonstration on where to find the body and shackle on a padlock:
A = Body Width
The body width is measured by placing a ruler or tape measure against the bottom of the padlock and measuring the distance from the bottom left corner to the right bottom corner of the body of the padlock. Please see the demonstration below on how to do this:
B = Overall Height
The overall height is measured by measuring from the bottom right corner of the padlock to the top of shackle. Please see the demonstration below on how to do this:
C = Body Thickness
The body thickness is measured by positioning the padlock on its side and measuring the width of the padlock. Please see the demonstration below on how to do this:
D = Clearance Width
The clearance width can be measured by measuring the distance between the left side of the shackle and the right side of the shackle. Please see the demonstration below on how to do this:
E = Clearance Height
The clearance height is measured by measuring from the end of the shackle to the beginning of the body. Please see the demonstration below on how to do this:
F = Shackle Thickness
The shackle thickness is measured by measuring from one edge of the shackle to the other end of the shackle. Please see the demonstration below on how to do this:
