Mortice locks – usually found on internal doors, garden sheds, gates and outbuildings to improve security – are embedded into the door itself and require a pocket (the mortice) to be cut into. They can only be opened using a mortice key.

First of all, you’ll need to take some detailed photographs of your key – preferably a side view and front view – then send them to us at info@lockshopdirect.co.uk. We’ll look closely at your key before offering a suitable replacement mortice key and will be able to tell you what pricing band it comes under (e.g. band A, B or C).

Once you know this, select it from the dropdown list and proceed to the checkout.

After completing your order, you will receive a confirmation email – including your order number which starts with ‘Web-xxx’. Please keep hold of this as you’ll need it when you send us the key you want copying.

If you’ve not lost your mortice key and you simply want us to make a copy of it, carefully parcel it up (not forgetting to include your order number!) and send to:

Please note that these keys are much larger than others so can take slightly longer to cut. On average, it takes our experts 5 minutes to duplicate the key, using a special key cutting machine, and we always make sure that the replacement mortice key is of the highest quality standard and fits perfectly inside your lock.

Delivery of mortice keys

The great thing about our mortice key replacement service is that you don’t have to wait too long for your keys to arrive.

As a general rule of thumb, we post all newly-cut keys and the original the following day – via recorded delivery. We also highly advise that you have them sent to a family, friend or workplace address to prevent the risk of them being intercepted by the wrong people.
